The software from edoc solutions ag is provided in a Kubernetes cluster in containers. In order to manage this cluster automatically and also install updates centrally, we deliver our software on a dedicated server with an agent that takes over control of the local system.
During the installation process, our script automatically installs snap and apt packages (MicroK8s and PHP 8).
During the operation of edoc platform, information on the current status of the system is queried by our agent (edoc agent).
All internal processes, routines, scripts, and the agent are customized and precisely tailored to an operating system. With Ubuntu Linux, we have found a robust and user-friendly operating system with a large community and professional support options.
Ubuntu is used in many server environments worldwide and, with the Long-Term Support (LTS) releases, offers a version that can also be used in highly professional corporate environments.
Advantages of an Ubuntu Linux platform
Security
Ubuntu offers robust security features including regular updates and patches.
There is a long support window for thousands of packages via the Long-Term Support (LTS) releases of Ubuntu Server.
Cost savings
Compared to many other operating systems, Ubuntu Server is an open source operating system that helps our customers to save costs.
Community and support
Administrators, IT professionals, and consultants can easily access information and professional support options in the lively Ubuntu community.
User friendliness
Ubuntu offers easy installation and management of Ubuntu Server so that users can install and manage an Ubuntu server even without in-depth technical knowledge.
Suitable times for an update to an Ubuntu LTS version
For each update, our experienced edoc team checks how a migration is possible. We always try to support only one version so that the support effort and therefore the costs are kept low for everyone involved.
You can usually update to the next Ubuntu LTS version yourself once edoc has released it. We publish a step-by-step guide, which contains in particular the possible individual steps for the edoc installation.
No use of existing Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Kubernetes systems
Even if you already run a system with Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Kubernetes in your organization, we cannot use these systems. Our systems and update mechanisms are completely automated and designed on Ubuntu with a local MicroK8s.
