We have noticed that the previous names (QA release and current release) have led to misunderstandings.
In the past, the term "QA release" was often interpreted as "test version". However, this is not the reality. Our monthly releases are fully-fledged, fully tested and stable software versions–just like the quarterly current releases.
By renaming the release channels in February 2026, we want to create more transparency for all those involved with clear designations and ensure that the significance and value of our releases is more visible.
Things to know
Our software releases are still clearly identified by their build number.
The build number is displayed in edoc system control in the corresponding release channel.
With the new name we achieve the following:
-
The release cycle is visible: monthly or quarterly.
-
The type of release is clear: regular release or a hotfix release for a specific release.
-
The communication is clearer with regard to the release period: pattern YYYY/MM or YYYY/QNo., whereby a number is always added to a hotfix separated by a dot. The hotfix numbering is in ascending order.
